Chicago Botanic Garden: CHICAGO LUSTRE® arrowwood viburnum gets its name from the bright, shiny green mature foliage. It can grow to a mature size of 12' x 10’, blooms in late May-early June with white flower clusters and blue-black fruit in the fall. This cultivar is noted for producing fruit more abundantly than the species.

 

This shrub is a Chicagoland Grows® selection. Chicagoland Grows® is a plant introduction partnership of the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Morton Arboretum and the Ornamental Growers Association of Northern Illinois formed to promote plant cultivars that perform well in northern Illinois. This variety was derived from a seedling found at the Morton Arboretum and was introduced by Synnestvedt Nursery.

 

Adoxaceae family (a-dox-AY-see-ee). Deciduous shrub, upright rounded form, dense, 10-12 ft tall and 8-10 ft wide in 10 years. Fall color only yellow with orange tints. Flowers have white petals, with yellow stamens projecting beyond the petals, giving a creamy white appearance, in June (Michigan). Fruit small metallic blue-black in clusters, early fall.

 

Severe trim in 2020.Culled suckers also. aka Viburnum 'Synnestvedt'. In process of culling 2 of 3, 2021.
