Originated about 1928 as a seedling in Fairview Nurseries, Fairview, Pennsylvania, introduced in 1942. Sun or part shade, well-drained soil.
Big box item. Conifer, evergreen shrub, dwarf, globose, very slow growing, annual growth only 1 inch, matures to 3-4 ft tall with slightly wider spread, foliage green, flat sprays. One is just outside the back door, so the dogs tend to water it. Planted in 2010. Plan on trimming lower branches this year, 2016. ~2x2 ft, 2016. 32in.Hx25inW, 2019 (8.5 years old).
