"Paeonia 'Barbara', 2018 photo, (3-DB-R) lactiflora cultivar Peony, (Krekler, 1978), USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Tall height, double, bomb type, dull red petals, large guard petals, tightly curled inter petals, strong stems, Michigan Bloom Month 6b, In Garden Bed a0 for 0 DAYS (Wild). Planted in 2018.

 

There are two peonies named ‘Barbara’. APS registered Peony Barbara (William H. Krekler, 1978) is a red, double lactiflora cultivar. G.H. Wild description: “Cerise red flowers have well-built guards surrounding a luscious mass of tightly curled inner petals in the center.” In other words, a “bomb type” flower. Stout, heavy stems. Listed in Carsten Burkhardt’s Peony Database is a dark pink “bomb” cultivar from Poland, circa 1986.
