Bilston Blast Furnace The End 1980
This was outside the gates of the former British Steel works in Spring Vale on the day they blew up the blast furnace on 5th October 1980. The Steelworks closed in 1979 and the land was to be used for housing and retail development. It was quite a sad moment really watching it fall, especially for the many who had lost their jobs at the works.
The area has since been developed into a housing and residential area and is today totally unrecognisable. The furnace was knows as Elizabeth and today a pub called the Elizabeth Arms stands at the site of the furnace.
