Monk Seal

The Hawaiian Monk Seal is an interesting animal that maintains a solitary existence and can dive to depths of over 500 meters to forage on deep sea prey. Human activity, predators, and environmental conditions have decreased the species population to just over 1000 individuals, resulting in endangered or critically endangered status. In addition, some features of its complex life history is making recovery a difficult process.

 

Given all that, we observed a few individuals, such as the one in this photo, returning to the same beach areas each day for what looks like an untroubled nap in the sunshine.

ハワイモンクアザラシは不思議で海に1600フィートの深さまで潜る事が出来ます。そこでタコ、ロブスター、等の生き物を食べます。現在の個体数は千二百匹 に減って絶滅危惧種の状態に成っている様です。この問題以外,写真に写っているアザラシは毎日このビーチで快適に太陽の下で日なたぼっこを楽しんでいます。
