CSX 770 has slogged it out over two 2% grades and down one, pushing a coal drag train almost 40 miles. Now it and friend are returning to the base of Newburg grade to do it all over again. Here they have just emerged from Kingwood Tunnel and are just about to pass the hulk of WS tower. West End tower (WS) controlled the flow of traffic at the top of Newburg grade, and routed helpers back down the hill when they used to cut-off their trains here. Since the mid eighties, helpers have stayed on until topping the second Eastbound grade at Terra Alta.
