Esso steam locomotive, Trafford Park
I purchased this small, old print on eBay, but unfortunately I have no details of the original photographer. Handwritten on the back in an old-looking script is the following:
25:11:53 Esso Petroleums Train Trafford Park.
I think this loco was built by Peckett as their works number 1572 in 1921. Esso operated several Peckett 0-4-0ST locos over the years, both at the Trafford Park facility and elsewhere. Some of their locos were transferred between locations so it's possible this is a different one - can anyone confirm?
They were later replaced with diesels, which may have been more capable of complying with the sign in this image 'NOTICE No Smoking, No Matches, No Lights Allowed'.
