1923 Railmotor ambulance

1923 Railmotor ambulance. Built by Ruddle Engineering Co in Brisbane, it was orignally powered by a Model T Ford engine, which was later replaced by a Ford Prefect unit. Originally operated by the Baralaba branch of the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade, it was transferred to the Blackall branch in 1937. Originally built with canvas sides, it was later enclosed for better weather protection. Railmotor ambulances were operated throughout Queensland, mostly in times of flood when the roads were inaccessible. Scanned from a photo taken by my father in 1989. This unit is now retired and on display at the old Blackall Railway station.
