Here's the key to my "boltless" construction mounted inside the closet. I feel 100% of strength. The plate's "fingers" come against the outside of the Scamp. The "pull" is with the length of the wooden mount. This is 7/16" plywood with a piece of 1/16" model aircraft plywood laminated to it in order to properly space the striker plate.
