Prairie Dock Leaves

Prairie Dock (Silphium terebinthinaceum) is related to the compass plant (Silphium laciniatum L.). The huge leaves of prairie dock are basal, rough like sandpaper, and entire. The leaves on the flower stalk are all reduced to bracts making the stem appear bare.
