Da King
This incredible hoodoo formation is known as the King Of Wings by most. It resides in a remote section of the San Juan Basin in northwest New Mexico (please don't ask for directions...I'm sworn to secrecy). Anyway, I've seen a handful of pictures of this fragile freak of nature for a few years now and actually figured out where it was last year, but hadn't had the occasion to get out there. That was until I received an invitation by Mr. Flickr - Mike Jones - to come on out to New Mexico and shoot it with him (and some other formations in the vicinity). That was all I needed to get my butt off the couch and see this thing for myself! The light was far from perfect during my visit, but the monsoon sky made up for it a bit. I guess I'll just have to make a return visit to get the sweet light!!
Thanks Mike for the invite. It was a fun evening...even though the monsoons ended it a bit prematurely.
