HS Puzzles 256pc Feeding the Ducks by HJ Yeend King IMG_0640_stitch

Jan 2024

Howard is able to cut extremely small pieces, so this qualifies as a small puzzle physically, even though it has a piece count larger than the usual limit of 150pc, which I've taken for my cut-off point in defining small.

Sept 2019: A petite jigsaw which would have made an excellent new hand cut entry to the Birds show & tell.

A small 256pc wooden jigsaw measuring 22.5 x 16.5cm, with pieces 1-2cm across cut about 9 months ago by Howard Smeeton of HS Puzzles. The image is a stitch of two photos using ICE. The larger ducks and the heads of the figures are line-cut, and the title piece is from the print used to make the puzzle - in the top left corner is one of Howard's characteristic spiral pieces.

I took this puzzle on holiday to the Chateau, and completed it whilst waiting to see if the sky would clear so that we might watch the Perseid Meteor Shower. Lighting in the room was poor and the colours are quite subtle, which made it more difficult than it would otherwise have been.

The print is by Henry John Yeend King (1855 - 1924), who often used his wife and daughter as his models. There is more information about the artist in a comment attached to the image below.
