Having studied the principles of Mughal miniatures Changani chose to work creating miniature handmade bricks for his sculptures which reflect the fundamental human need for shelter.
In Life Line he has created a sheet from a staggered-bond of brick units that suggests and drapes like cloth. The hard, brittle units of the protective tent suggests the hardships endured by people struggling daily for survival.
I like this particular detail because of the spiky waves, and rotation like a 'Mexican Wave' or falling dominoes, frozen in time
.
Life line, and in particular the dark-void at its centre also reminds me of Alison Watt's giant canvases 'Phantom' depicting draped white cloth at the National Gallery, themselves inspired by Zubaran's 'Saint Francis in Meditation' and other works there.
