Andrew Kershaws Deedle Deedle Dumpling BCD Library Box 40th Anniversary HP DSC05945

Another member enjoyed doing this jigsaw from our loans box at the 40th Anniversary House Party.

Andrew Kershaw 700pc Deedle Deedle Dumpling, cut Feb 2017, 19x15in.

It has two replacements c Bronwen. The cut is Andrew's usual one - an interlocking edge with a line-cut, push-fit centre. The large areas of colour and bold patterns lend themselves to working on 'islands' which then come together quickly. I started with the curtains and window panes and ended with the trousers, shirt and sheets. The chains of interior pieces with a characteristic knob were also very helpful. It is quite a difficult jigsaw.

Andrew Kershaw acquired a number of nursery rhyme school prints - possibly a whole set - and cut them at various times since c2007. At least two were cut as adult puzzles with a large piece count (see 'Old King Cole', and others may emerge from members).

When Sue Toller & Trish cleared his flat they saved a number of the uncut jigsaw blanks, many of which were of nursery rhymes from the same source as this, Gay Way Series of Nursery Rhymes from 1950s by Ella Ruth Boyce. Several members bought blanks to get them cut by other cutters they know.

This series of Nursery Rhyme Pictures by Dorothy Muriel Wheeler was produced by Macmillan & Co. to support the Gay Way reading scheme.

See Andrew's versions on Jigasaurus of 450pc Oranges & Lemons & 250pc Little Bo Peep.

I have one of the ones with larger pieces which are perfect for children - I'll have to get out soon as the date is approaching:

Andrew Kershaw cut Aug 2007 280pc Please To Remember the Fifth of November, mahogany-backed 3-ply, large pieces, 39x48cm, artwork by Boyce Nursery Rhymes. First assembled at the BCD Meeting in Sept 2007 ( when Andrew was Membership Secretary for the BCD).
