Oval Expert Jigsaw Nurse on Ward by Charles Robinson 40th Anniv HP DSC05979
I spotted this jigsaw on a sales table at the 2024 house party and recommended it to a friend. I don't know if they bought it or someone else did, but it (or a very similar jigsaw) turned up assembled at the 2025 House Party.
Oval Expert Jigsaw Nurse on Ward by Charles Robinson I didn't photograph the box or get a piece count.
I have a copy too, bought at the Nov 2018 meeting, see below:
"This lovely oval vintage jigsaw was made in the 1920s or 1930s in the Expert style. It shows a nurse on a ward of men carrying a tray on which sits an angel and the painting is signed Charles Robinson. We made it up on the day and another member told me he also had an example of the same jigsaw. Ours is no longer in its original box, being housed in a 'Magnalite' illuminated magnifier box. As an excercise I tried to trace the cutting lines for this jigsaw."
Charles Robinson was born in Islington in 1870, the son of illustrator Thomas Robinson, and his brothers Thomas Heath Robinson and William Heath Robinson (the famous cartoonist) also became illustrators. I have been unable to confirm that this man's signature is like that on this print, or locate any works like this nurse by this man, so it's possible that it might be another Charles Robinson.
