Puzzle Parley 2024 July 19-21 Delegates Magazine In Memoriam 2

When looking through my delegates magazine for the 2024 (30th Anniversary) of Puzzle Parley I was touched to see this in memoriam notice to Puzzle Parley friends who had died since the 2022 Puzzle Parley. Heading the list is Andrew Kershaw, a BCD member whose memorial celebration is soon to be held (10th Sept), including a trip on a boat which he used to skipper to take kids on outings. Andrew was active in drafting the BCD constitution, cut many small and medium sized jigsaws for members and ran cutting demonstrations. The small photos show BCD members in a collage jigsaw he cut to record the 2006 Eastbourne house party. The photo with him in yellow was taken by Anne Williams of a 2001 meeting, and is in the archives of the Strong Museum. The jigsaw of the labradors was cut for Tom & Trish Tyler.

I didn't know Simon Ottenberg, but I recall Terry Walters bringing to our BCD meetings a 2016 PEPE (Exchange) jigsaw cut by Carol Barnard Ottenberg 73pc Native Sun. This cutter must surely be a relative of Simon.

Steve Rogers, beloved husband of Dee Rogers died last autumn, leaving Dee and his family bereft and heartbroken. I didn't know that Steve also designed jigsaws, but I have been aware of Dee's talents for over twelve years. The small photo is of them in happier times. Dee is herself now very ill, living with constant medical care and has created another legacy for her & Steve in starting a facebook group which aims to mentor & encourage new cutters to take up the craft, improve and make it a paying career. She has forged an international online community and a body of tutorials, and has gifted all her original designs to her friends and students to use to make income.

Shown is my copy of Platinum Puzzles Out of My Gourd, cut by Dee, and one of the designs she has gifted to others.

I think that Terry Walters and Tom Tyler would also have been honoured in this way in the 2022 Delegates Magazine.
