Vintage 344pc Young Maori Matron & Child 12pt5x14pt8in Continuously Cut Jigsaw New Zealand Theme 2
I have no idea who cut this jigsaw in its nice wooden box.
Vintage (Continuously Cut) New Zealand Young Maori Mother & Child 14.8x12.5in - bought in Dec 2022.
Coastal tours has another version in a more random cutting style. See below in comments.
"This is a colorized photograph made by British born New Zealand artist Charles Troughton Clark (1890-1973). Several pictures from this session can be found on the internet, one of them appearing on a 1938 calendar sheet. They were probably shot in Rotorua in 1937, and I suppose the puzzle was cut not long after that.
Another puzzle from this image is currently up for auction on eBay and has the title 'Young Maori matron and child'. (now mine). This suggests that the image had been published in the UK at some point and was selected for puzzle manufacturing, as I don't suppose that two different puzzles were cut from this image in New Zealand.
This one has a rather bold and quirky push-fit cut, with some very few hints of colorline cutting. Many pieces are slanted, suggesting an amateur cut. There are two excellent solid wood replacement pieces. It came in a sturdy period box without any information on it, which I'll probably replace as it is a bit too large for this puzzle."
