David P S&T Parker Pastime Contest Set For 4 & Other Examples 7

Lower Left:

David P showed his smallest jigsaws, a Parker Pastime 4-Jigsaw Contest Set.

David thought that he probably had a mixed set, ie one not originally sold together, but the smaller jigsaw of children sledging had been put with three from another set to complete it. The subject is also rather different from the other three. However Coastal Tours has a set which he believes clean and original like this, in which the packaging and reference numbers support his hypothesis.

David's jigsaws are 30pc each and around 5x3.5in, with images of an Eagle, Moose & Waterfall - with the odd image titled " The Race Is Not To The Swiftest". He said they took him 5-10 minutes to do each one. The packaging of David's jigsaws is like than in the top-right photo.

Right Column: Outer box and inner packaging of another 4-Jigsaw Contest Set. This was sold in April 2014 by a Canadian BCD member and the images have a rural theme.

Parker Bros Pastime Contest Set for 4 1929 Cottage, Grist Mill, Stream, Departing Day.

Upper Left: This year a very large, 16-Jigsaw Contest Set appeared on ebay in the UK. I believe it was in good condition with only a very few missing pieces, and snapped up by Deb.

Upper Centre: From Bob Armstrong's 2021 Fall Sale - a large x12 Parker Pastime Set from the 1920s, 376pc total, 48fig 1repl The image is tiny but Bob classified the cuts as 'footed knobs'.
