John H Vintage Pears 180pc Christmas Fare 1913 Annual Appetising by E Ladell Still Life jp2854
John Hyde Collection:
Vintage 260pc jigsaw with an all-over interlocking cut, without line-cutting. It measures 17x12in and comes from BCD member stgenix's records. (Or possibly 180pc, John's ref jp2854).
Top right is John's edited photo. The version top left is my editing of his original. The box is covered in wallpaper and has no labels visible in the photo - it may or may not be the original box the cutter placed it in. The cutting is very assured, an all-over cut with many and long lobes.
In the comment below are all four examples (that I know of) of the 1913 Pears Annual print Appetising by E Ladell.
Top row: Tin label and jigsaw Fret-Saw Puzzles 187pc Ready for the Cook. I thought it might be Sani's Macaroni, which has a dark background, but it proved to be this 1913 Pears Annual print, the still life Appetising, by E Ladell. The jigsaw is cut in a tray arrangement: very large interlocking pieces enclose a rectangular cloud-cut centre. It is cut from solid board, quite loosely, and some of the dark pieces have suffered significant paper damage. Other pieces have rippled or peeling paper. It was quite an easy jigsaw, as expected from a low piece count without line cutting.
Centre Left: Vintage c250pc jigsaw with interesting push-fit or semi-interlocking cut. It measures 17x13in and was sold in April 2014 by a BCD member in Canada.
Lower Left: Vintage 260pc jigsaw with an all-over interlocking cut, without line-cutting. It measures 17x12in and comes from BCD member stgenix's records. (Or possibly 180pc, John's ref jp2854).
Lower Right: An all-over cut, slightly more random and with longer arms than the one on lower left, but with the benefit of some line-cutting. This belongs to new flickr member Cat Lady.
