BCD House Party Feb22 Urban Life Show & Tell 1

The top photo shows my extended show & tell offerings, plus a couple of the booklets I've put together for other S&Ts in the past. The lower photo shows my Edenbridge vintage and Penbleth's marvellous commission from Heather Prydderch. If anything we were a little short of new hand-cuts compared with recent years - but that was because we were missing our cutters Genest & Geert and because Nicki (who always brings great new hand-cuts) was prevented in coming by the storm.

Lower Photo

Left: Heather Prydderch of Puzzlewood 1145pc The Little Street by Johannes Vermeer. At Penbleth's request, Heather created a plywood jigsaw that was half 3D-enhanced and half fine art 'Advent Calendar'. All the shutters and doors can be removed to reveal a lower level, so the house is peopled by characters from the paintings of Vermeer or those of Pieter de Hooch. If the house level is removed what remains is a modern art gallery. This 3-level 1145pc marvel measures 24x20in.

Right: Edenbridge 458pc Copenhagen LNER Poster by Frank H Mason, 20.5 x 19.5in, no 302. A large vintage jigsaw based on an LNER poster by artist Frank H Mason showing Copenhagen, for the Harwich to Esbjerg liner route (promoting Copenhagen as an ideal holiday centre, with sailing every weekday). It is semi-interlocking, cut with verve (including letters, a circular feature and a rectangular outline beyond which the tower protrudes) by an unknown master. A post card within gives 19 names and dates, starting from Oct 1931, in three periods up to 2002, suggesting it might once have been part of a small library.

Top Photo:

Top Left: Cardboard: Art & Fable 1000pc Paramount Reflected Betsy Silverman, 48x68cm.

A lovely velvet-suede image surface, dead matte with bright colours. The grid cut jigsaw has all the standard shapes – nonesies to foursies. Betsy Silverman (from Boston) produces works of ‘fragmented realism’ - hyper-real, colourful collages of everyday city scenes, still lives and portraits from slivers of magazine photographs, graphics & text.

Top Right: Wentworth 500pc New York City Lady Kirsten Ulve

A modern graphical image reminiscent of the classic airline advertising posters used by Par – but sadly only a Wentworth whimsy cut (although with a good range of appropriate whimsies).

On the edge: Pomegranate 1000pc Detroit Industry & top corner: M&S 500pc 12 Days of Advent

Front Row: Boxes for my vintage and cardboard show & tell items.

- Wentworth 500pc London City Skate by Victor McLindon (Box)

A very blue design showing many iconic modern London buildings to remind us of the time when David was living & working near Aldgate.

- Davici 190pc Offstage (Box). This jigsaw was done during the event, but was also done at home by Kim. It has a decorated top edge and many dance themed whimsies. The connectors are fancy and often look like heads of dancers too.

- Art & Fable 500pc Carnival Train/Parade by Carl Strathman - my latest example, bought second hand.
