Four Vintage Jigsaws of Constable's The Haywain 6

Four vintage jigsaw versions of Constable's The Haywain. Some of these are very modestly priced within budget of the cardboard-jigsaw charity shop browser. These are for David P, who posted an example and commented on the disruptive effect of cutting lines on jigsaws of the painting.

The top row are both by ZigZag. (A third example of a ZigZag jigsaw is shown in the other collage.)

Top Left: ZigZag 350pc The Haywain, in a deep box with orange patterned sides with a tournament scene on top with a ZigZag cut. The box lid shows five whimsies including the anchor which can be seen in the sky in this example. The solid wood jigsaw has 1repl, measures 16.8x10.5in, and according to its side label originally sold for 7s 6d. The whimsies are shapely and well detailed. It sold cJuly 2020 for £41 by deamus, who dates it c1910-15. See Jigasaurus for more photos:

Top Right: ZigZag 400pc The Haywain, in a deep box with faded orange-patterned sides and a tournament scene on the top. This copy has 3repl and was sold c Sept 2020 for the very modest sum of £4 (as little as £3.50, I round to nearest £ - about the cost of posting it!). It is a whimsy cut, mostly shapes but there is a duck by the wagon and a bird in flight near the tree.

Lower Left: One of a pair of small vintage jigsaws from Constable prints stored together in a reused octagonal tin. This is Vintage 155pc The Haywain, 9x6in - the other was 93pc Dedham Lock, 2pcmiss. It is an interesting cut, with long arms which has some line-cutting. The pair were offered for sale by a BCD member, starting at £3 in Sept 2016, but remained unsold.

Lower Right: Victory Gold Box 500pc The Haywain, 19.5x14in. A late Victory with whimsies of only modest quality. This was unsold in Sept 2018 at £30. You can see another example of a similar date on Jigasaurus (although the logo on the label of this example is slightly different to the one in the collage, they are both made under Spear & Sons ownership).
