John Hyde A1 Puzzle Club 900pc A Chinese Town 7

BCD Friday Talk

A marvellously detailed image full of incident is the basis of this jigsaw showed by John in his talk on Oriental jigsaws.

A1 Puzzle Club 912pc A Chinese Town - artist unknown. The cut is quite globular, with much of the side edges being push-fit, the style looks similar to that of Chad Valley (but I'm not attributing it to them without evidence from the box label).

John's label identifies the jigsaw as forming part of the stock of the A1 Puzzle Club.

Nicki's research indicates:

A1 Puzzle Club, 1920’s - 1930’s, Run by: Edith Williams, Grosvenor House, Acton Vale, London W3

Cutter: Label shows cutter as C.V. = Chad Valley. JWH = Hayter or Victory

Also C.S. of 38 Shalimar Gardens, Acton W3

Boxes: Large square brown strong card with Club details on top, frequently disintegrated.

Cut: High quality. Regularly used Victory and Chad Valley housed in Club boxes.
