AR Quinton Village Scene Jigsaws Mainly Salmon Academy

One of the show & tell items was a collage jigsaw of AR Quinton village paintings. Here are some examples from my files.

Top L: Vintage 100pc smooth push-fit Cottages at Dunster, Somerset - sinusoidal pieces in style of Peacock or Tuck Tippe Toppe.

Lower L: Vintage 600pc Wyke Village. Unknow maker but quite globular, so possibly Salmon. (Looks like Wyre Piddle)

Lower CL: Salmon Academy 325pc Wyre Piddle 14x10in - jazzy patterned box with Shield label, 'Watercolour'

Upper CL & R: Salmon Academy 250pc Thirlstone 14x10in, globular strip cut - red textured box with label

Upper CR & Lower CR & Lower R: Salmon Academy Super Cut 340pc Thirlstone 3525cm, mixed cut interlocking globular stripcut background, push-fit smooth line-cut for foreground.

Wikipedia:

Alfred Robert Quinton (1853–1934) was an English watercolour artist, known for his paintings of British villages and landscapes. Many of these were published as postcards (by Salmon), which are popular with today's collectors. His paintings have also been published in many calendars. Well over 2,000 of his paintings were published between 1904 and the time of his death. He also illustrated a number of books including "The Historic Thames" by Hilaire Belloc.

A book was published about his work:

Quinton, A. R. The Rural England of A.R.Quinton (J. Salmon Ltd. 1990)

aboutcards.blogspot.com/2007/01/postcards-of-r-quinton.html

"Watercolour artist A R Quinton was 57 years of age when postcard publisher Joseph Salmon spotted some of his paintings in a London art gallery. Salmon persuaded ARQ to let him print a 1912 calendar featuring Quintons English village views. The calendar was a success and, over the next 22 years, Quinton went on to produce more than 2000 watercolours featuring the towns, villages and resorts of England and Wales which Salmon published as postcards. (You will also find ARQ cards published by Raphael Tuck)."
