DSC01794 BCD No19 Auction Lot13 Holtzapffel Goldielocks in Cottage of Three Bears adj
Lot 13 – Holtzapffel, Goldielocks in Cottage of the Three Bears, 900pc, complete 4repl, 29.5x20in, no original box, est£220 – START£200 MADE £360
This was the second large rectangular Holtzapffel to be auctioned with an attractive and collectable image and it confirmed that the price the first achieved wasn't unusual. The auction contained 5 Holtzapffel puzzles with piece counts in the range 900-1100pc, which seldom come to market. These sold for £390, £360, £355, 3350 and £210. I've only recorded 3 sales on ebay UK since 2013, of two jigsaws (one sold twice).
Dave Cooper, cutter, enthusiast and former owner of the British Jigsaw Library, passed away this summer and his most prestigious jigsaws were auctioned at the November 2019 BCD Meeting. 31 puzzles formed 28 lots - all of which were sold. Tom Tyler was the auctioneer and overseas and absent members were able to make postal or 'book' bids. Most of the lots were sold to UK members, but some will be leaving Britain. A high proportion of the lots were vintage Holtzapffel jigsaws - guaranteeing a high turnout for the meeting.
