Lot 26 – Tuck ZagZaw, The Flower Market, 1050pc, complete 1repltag, 26x21.5in, whimsies (prob earlet), est£170 – START £120 MADE £260
This jigsaw is cut in the later Tuck ZagZaw style, with earlet or heart-shaped knobs and finely cut figurals (as was the other ZagZaw jigsaw in the auction). Looking through my files I have seen this 1050pc jigsaw on UK ebay twice before:
Nov 2014, when Dave Cooper sold another copy for £272 (96 figurals)
Aug 2016, when a copy with 4pcmiss sold for £76
Dave Cooper, cutter, enthusiast and former owner of the British Jigsaw Library, passed away this summer and his most prestigious jigsaws were auctioned at the November 2019 BCD Meeting. 31 puzzles formed 28 lots - all of which were sold. Tom Tyler was the auctioneer and overseas and absent members were able to make postal or 'book' bids. Most of the lots were sold to UK members, but some will be leaving Britain. A high proportion of the lots were vintage Holtzapffel jigsaws - guaranteeing a high turnout for the meeting.
