DSC01757 BCD Mtg Children at Play Show & Tell adj

The theme of the BCD Meeting in Nov 2019 was Children at Play. On the left is a large shaped jigsaw showing four running girls rolling hoops called Time For Play. It was part of the Gamble Library at Yarm in N Yorkshire - its brown mock-croc box is behind it.

A Junior Waddington circular cardboard jigsaw (180pc, 12in diameter) is in the centre. Its subject is The Children's Party and it can be seen on the Waddington's Junior Circular jigsaw page of Jigasaurus. The cardboard is quite flimsy.

On the lower level are two beautiful vintage jigsaws. The one in view is a Tuck ZagZaw, 420pc cut in the later earlet interlocking style. The image is a painting by WS Coleman, Little Fisher Maids.

The maroon puzzleboard was opened later to reveal a 250pc Holtzapffel Figure-It-Out jigsaw, showing children and animal figures dancing in a ring. You can see the jigsaw on the Jigasaurus site, under the title 'Happy Family', but I have also seen in described as Rose Red.

Between the circular Waddington jigsaw and the puzzleboard is a group of small jigsaws and boxes. At the back is a wooden early personal photopuzzle made by Jerome, a high-St photographic chain of the 1920s or 1930s. The owner has seen 5 or 6 examples. A dark blue Gamage's jigsaw box is in a stack behind a smaller mid-blue one - the packaging for the tiny jigsaw 'The Dunce' in the corner, part of a jigsaw games set (probably of 4).

The red box belongs to an Expert cut jigsaw, 'Playtime', marketed by W Tye under the Perivale brand. It shows a child on a bed.
