DSC00881 Martin Norgate A Piece of Jahlsberg adj

BCD have been circulating the jigsaws cut by its late member Martin Norgate and this is one of them. Martin was known to create puzzles with unique mental challenges and think outside the box with his cutting schemes.

The 'Piece of Jarlsberg' jigsaw is a 4-layer 3D-enhanced jigsaw - and just as in the cheese the holes do not neatly line up. This is the description given by the BCD member who assembled the jigsaw:

"... On spreading out the pieces you immediately see a fair number of irregularly-shaped glossy pieces and a much larger number of dull beige ones, so it's a start to put the glossy ones together and hope everthing else will fall into place. However two of them have other pieces stuck underneath so you realise there must be more than one layer and further examination shows beige pieces stuck together, so perhaps three layers in all? More helpfully some pieces have rounded red edges which means they must be part of the rind. At this point you can separate them and begin to seriously do the puzzle. After many attempts you are able to construct an outline of the cheese and realise there are four layers. It is important to complete the bottom layer before going on to the next. Martin has exploited the fact that Jarlsberg cheese is full of holes and cut most of the pieces with false rounded edges. The holes don't even line up between layers."

That looks like a jigsaw I'll have to try to borrow!
