DSC00818 BCD Alton Show & Tell adj
The Sept 2019 meeting of the BCD (British jigsaw enthusiast society) was held at Alton in Hampshire. The theme for the Show & Tell was Birds.
A well-known Salmon specialist brought six Salmon Academy jigsaws to the meeting, with information from trade leaflets. In this photo are two small postcard sized 35pc 2-sided jigsaws:
Left: Parrots & Pelicans, produced 1927 in mahogany, costing 1s.
Right: Swallows and Peacock, produced in 1926 in mahogany, costing 1s.
I'm afraid I didn't take a close up of this pair.
On the portapuzzle board are two jigsaws cut for the British Jigsaw Library:
L: Richard Sawbridge 333pc Blue Kingfisher from the 1973 illustrated book The Butterfly Ball. Illustrations by Alan Aldridge, book by William Plomer.
R: Unknown cutter 444pc The Rose Coloured Starling (Hedge Sparrow, Golden Oriole, Cirl Bunting and Lapland Bunting) by Henrik Gronvold. Not in its original library box (but with a slip confirming its origins and bought from a former library owner) I thought IRP might be the cutter's initials, however the current library owner told me it probably indicated one replacement piece! (There are two clear replacements.)
Back: Ceaco shaped die-cut cardboard jigsaw, 700pc Mystical Shapes North American series, The Conductor. The bald-eagle headed frame includes N American native symbols and a shamen wielding a lightning bolt. The plywood turkey, with no image and with cutouts forming details within the silhouette, was cut by BCD member Geert Bekkering.
On the corner shelf at the back is the box of a shaped Liberty Puzzle - Carolina Parakeets by Audubon.
