Co-Op 504pc Wild Flower Meadow by Richard Tratt DSC07331

From the cut (and the pin-holes indicating stacking) I believe this, made in England wooden jigsaw was probably made by Optimago, for The Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd (Membership Services, New Century House Manchester). 504pc (1 piece missing) 58 x 39.4cm.

The acrylic painting is by Richard Tratt, SWLA SBA.

The box says 'Colourful and sweet-scented wild meadows are the essence of the BAritish countryside - a rich mixture of lady's smock and yellow rattle, knapweed, sweet vernal grass, meadow sweet and many others that brighten our summer. ' I don't know when the jigsaw was made but probably at least 15 years ago and maybe 30. Authentic wild flower meadows are probably classed as SSSIs (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) now. On our regular walks in the countryside we visited a couple of wild flower meadows, and river bank sites recently and saw many wild orchids - which made me bid on this jigsaw, even with the missing piece. Last summer's drought made walking in the countryside a comparatively miserable experience and so this year's abundance was very welcome.

In the painting I see buttercups, red clover, bird's foot trefoil, ribwort plantain, yellow rattle, ox-eye daisy and plantain - I can't name the grasses.
