BCD Meeting Tintern - Battling BB Dickinson DSC06783

A member hard at work on a difficult jigsaw that is not giving up its secrets easily. The jigsaw comes in a large brown cardboard box seen on the edge of the photo. The large typed label states that it is 'Embarrassing Congratulations, a 460pc jigsaw designed and cut by BB Dickinson of 28 Storey's Way, Cambridge. I was immediately intrigued, because I used to live on that road many years ago and I had seen a Jigasaurus entry about the cutter!

The 'Scheme - Concentric segments of circle, subdivisions mostly triangular (modified to interlock)' was boldly stated on the label, with the dimensions 16.5 x 12in. A cutter after my own heart - mathematical, inventive and proud of it! I spent some time working on this puzzle but it wasn't finished over the day.

Here is what David Shearer says about his example of BB Dickinsons work on Jigasaurus:

"B.B. Dickinson of 28, Storey's Way, Cambridge, is a little known cutter of excellent quality plywood puzzles, the first example so far seen demonstrating an incredible "two edged axe-head repeat" scheme of cutting. How many puzzles were cut is unknown, but the skill shown in this first example certainly seems to imply that this was not a one-off!"
