AVN Jones South African Series 300pc Range Changes1

Packaging showing the expansion and discontinuation of titles in the AVN Jones South African Series. This was the subject of a talk at the BCD 2019 House Party, which also covered briefly the other AVN Jones ranges including Delta, their contract manufacturing work and the artworks of CE Turner and F Matania. They also did some 300pc double sided jigsaws in the South African range (eg Victoria Falls/Yachting in Table Bay).

Many of the series were from paintings commissioned by the South African High Commission to promote tourism and immigration, others have links to newspapers The Sketch and The illustrated London News.

The top right is the earliest, listing the first twelve in the series with none missing (it belongs to a 300pc no10 Lion's Den jigsaw but has been stamped with no 11 Rand Gold Mine) :

Some titles - No 28 In the Drakensberg National Park 400pc, Transkei 400pc - were issued under the Delta range for Selfridges at 22s 6d. The titles were presumably available in both piece counts, but only 300pc versions of no 13 are known to the lecturer.

Brian Price states that prints from Huvanco and AVN Jones were bought by Victory when the other manufacturers ceased trading.
