BCD House Party African River Life 1

Two progress shots of vintage wooden jigsaw 'African River Scene', which is housed in a wallpaper-covered box. We left before this jigsaw was finished. The artist was probably illustrator ES Hardy and from the shape of some of the pieces I think the cutter might have been G Rablah. He often stamped the back of some of his pieces with a purple-blue stamp (GF Rablah Vicarage Rd Poole) - if I'd had my wits about me I should have checked. There is a characteristic thistle-shaped piece.

G Rablah was associated with the Newton Longville, Bletchley jigsaw library in the 1930s. Bletchley Park was the wartime centre responsible for breaking the German codes using the Enigma machine.

Post Script - the completed jigsaw has been posted and you can read ES Hardy in the corner.
