Vernon La Rue Bourbon-Penthievre 25
View from the river towards the back of Notre Dame de Vernon, along Rue Bourbon Penthievre.
The road is named after the last Lord of Vernon, Jean-Marie de Bourbon, Duke of Penthievre, who died in Chateau de Bizy in 1793. Before the Second World War the street, lined with old timber-framed houses stretched as far as the Seine. The bombings and the opening of Boulevard du Marechal Leclerc led to loss of part of the neighbourhood. A portion of the 13thC town wall survives in the garden of no1. In the past this was a poor neighbourhood subject to flooding.
