Brogden Jigsaw Guide Picture Map Dissector DSC02005
In the show & tell two fabulous entries - one antique, one brand new - were the items from one lucky member, who felt that these were the ultimate jigsaws she would ever be likely to own.
The antique one was cut from a printed Trades poster by Brogden (no entries in either of the books by Linda Hannas or Tom Tyler that I own). It is of unique historical interest because it is the only depiction of a 'Map Dissector' known to BCD members (Benevolent Confraternity of Dissectologists) see the lower right corner. I'm not sure if the depiction is very accurate! The finest furniture makers would have use the same methods to produce marquetry, brass/tortoiseshell/ebony 'Boulle' work and hardstone mosaic work (pietre dure).
The jigsaw has a missing piece - you can see the full size guide print at the back. I wish I'd uncovered and photographed the box, but I was rather afraid to touch it. Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about jigsaws of this vintage because they seldom come up on ebay and I don't collect them.
