British Jigsaw Library 1006pc Sleeping Lion Christine Chagnoux 2

The sturdy plain box of the British Jigsaw Library carries three address labels, the uppermost being that of Pearl Compton, who in 1986 moved the Library to 8 Heath Terrace, LeamingtoN Spa, Warwickshire CV32 5LY.

The image is a beautifull children's illustration, 'The Sleeping Lion' by Christine Chagnoux (the image is signed twice). The jigsaw measures 18 1/2" x 30", with 1006 plywood pieces, including 8 replacement pieces. It is carefully line-cut around the features such as the leaves, flowers, cloud-line, animals etc. It reminds me of 'The Magic Roundabout'. I wasn't able to find 'The Sleeping Lion' as an illustration or book title on the internet.

Christine Chagnoux is a twentieth century French artist, author and illustrator, who studied art techniques in her native Paris. Since the mid 1960's her art has been exhibited widely in such cities as Lausanne, Paris and New York. She has also been awarded the 'Prix des jeunes'.
