Thornby on Thor's day

This is a limb of a 400+ year old Tulip Tree that my son Joseph and I sat sheltered near on a visit today to the Nagarjuna Kadampa Meditation Centre for modern Buddhism at nearby Thornby Hall.

The blackness underneath is a natural release of the tree sap.
