This small red brick tower mill was built about 1850 and sits on a bend of the River Bure between Hoveton Little Broad and Salhouse Broad, on a stretch known as Dydles Reach. The mill was one of an important group of drainage mills in the Broads area and is a prominent feature in the landscape.
The mill was badly damaged by fire in 1912 and remained a derelict ruin until converted to residential use in the late 1920s by a local writer Drew Miller.
The River Bure rises near Melton Constable, 11 miles upstream of Aylsham, which was the original head of navigation. Most of its length lies within the Norfolk Broads and it flows to Great Yarmouth where it meets Breydon Water and flows into the sea at Gorleston.
