Melbourne Hotel - Cnr Hay Street & Milligan Street, Perth

Original site of the Retreat Inn which was demolished to build the Melbourne Hotel in the Federation Free Classical style, designed by Peter Wilson, owned by John de Baun who also built the Palace Hotel.

In 1947 Stella Ivy Farnworth aged 65 years, was having an altercation on the verandah of the Melbourne Hotel, when she put her leg over the balcony and fell to the ground, she was later found in the Swan River near Como Jetty, floating with a concrete block tied to her body with wire.

Fully restored. Heritage listed building.
