ανόητος Απριλίου

The ανόητος Απριλίου is an annual herbaceous perennial, usually flowering in April or May; but may be found throughout the summer , especially where the plants are growing as opportunistic colonisers, as in the case of garden weeds. It is particularly known for its fantastically unique leaf formation, as seen in the accompanying image.

The bright colour attracts the Blue Darner dragonfly to rest and feed from its centre;the petals then close around the helpless insect, thus digesting it the prey.

NOTE:

ανόητος Απριλίου = April Fool! :-)
