In 1860, Diocesan Native Female Training School was found at Bonham Road.

It was renamed Diocesan Female School in 1866, restricted to orphans and destitute Chinese girls in 1869. Later, it became the Diocesan Home and Orphanage and accepted boys as well.

The School first received government financial assistance in 1878. The boys were to continue their education at the newly founded Diocesan Boys' School.

In 1891, the School changed its name to "Diocesan School and Orphanage" (DSO).

In 1902, the School changed its name to "Diocesan Boys’ School and Orphanage" (DBSO).

In 1913, DGS moved to Jordon Road 1.

In 1918, the name Diocesan Boys’ School was already used.

The school campus was built in 1923, borrowed to British Military Authority as hospital.

DBS moved into present campus in 131 Argyle Street in 1927.
