A labeled (the best I can discern) close-up of the emission, or "flash" spectrum, of the solar chromosphere. The brighter parts of the spectrum are emissions due to electrons in specific atoms de-exciting and emitting monochromatic light. Ca II is from ionized calcium atoms (they have already lost one electron). Hα, Hβ, Hγ, and Hδ are all from differently excited hydrogen atoms. He is helium (two different excited states) and Mg is magnesium.
