Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

I am really enjoying the Fender/Squier VI! Tuned like a guitar, but an octave lower, it can produce some very beefy and low bass lines. Yet it plays like guitar, and chords come out clear and not muddy. There is something about the scale length, pickup placement and overall design of this instrument that makes it a true hybrid of bass and guitar. Being both a bassist and guitarist (and unlike many I learned to read and play on bass before ever picking up a guitar) this instrument is tugging at both the guitar and bass sides of my brain. Many are seeing this instrument pop up in Peter Jackson's "Get Back" since the Beatles used it on so many tunes. However, I think one of my favorite performances on the Fender VI is from Glen Campbell on Wichita Lineman. I wish I had more time to arrange and internalize a fingerpicked version of this song--I'm reading the chart on a music stand outside the frame--but Christmastime is of the essence. Merry Christmas!
