Parking Space

From this combination shot, you can see how parking spaces have gotten much smaller than they used to be. Both images were taken at Southeastern Illinois College, where I went to college. The top image was taken in September 1979, when I was studying photography there, and the bottom image was taken on May 11th, 2012. In the bottom image, you can still see the spacing of the old concrete "bumpers" you pulled up to and the lines have been repainted to make the parking spaces smaller - that's why they don't line up with the "bumpers" any more.

I was just reading on an automotive thread where some guy said he preferred compact trucks because they're easier to park. Well, I think we shouldn't demand smaller cars, we should demand that we get our full-sized parking spaces back. You might say, "but they don't make any full-sized cars in America any longer." And you would be right. But, there are some full-sized cars left on the road, and I have to have a big car, because at 6'3", I have problems fitting into the smaller cars of today. They should go back to making full-sized cars because they still make full-sized people.

The top image is a calotype and was taken with a 4"x5" pinhole box camera I made in college and the bottom image was taken with a Polaroid Fun Shooter Flash one-time-use camera.
