DO NOT BUY, Shogun G-E Adapter

Shogun G-E adapter , made in Hong Kong

On the outside, this adapter is identical in every detail with the Metabones. On the inside, I do not know. The dealer in Shanghai swore the 2 brands are identical and from the same manufacturer in Hong Kong (metabones does come from HK). The purchase price was the same as the Metabones. Stated Warranty is 1 yr.

PROS:

* Materials: good, seems to be aluminium and brass. Heavy.

* Workmanship: decent on exterior.

* Finish: good. seems to be anodised and chromed.

* Fit between adapter to camera is solid, and lens to adapter is solid. No sloppiness.

CONS:

* Upon purchase, the focus turning was very stiff and eventually loosening after some use. For the first 4 months, the adapter was smooth enough to give decent performance.

* After 4 months, the adapter works, but is not smooth. It has flat spots that create bumps when turning the focus ring. As the ring turns, I can feel a point of resistance (the bump), which requires greater force to overcome and creates a snapping effect. At the bump spot, focussing is impossible. The bump spot floats: it always occurs, but never at the same spot exactly.

* Neither the dealer nor the company will honour the warranty, so the purchase price is wasted.

2015 Update:

This thing's internals are worse than I thought. I disassembled mine, hoping to determine why it could not be smooth. I have rarely seen a poorer design. It is supposed to be planetary, but it has only 1 planetary gear [when it should have 4]. It has weird tensioners to apply pressure between the internal plates, and these wear quickly from the constant moving of the focus plate. This thing is simply a hack job, done in an apartment, by no engineer. A complete fraud.

RECOMMENDATION: Do not purchase.
