Klepzig Grist Mill HDR
Klepzig grist mill was built around 1928 by the son of a German/Prussian immigrant, Walter Klepzig. It was unique, as this little mill did not use the normal water wheel to power the milling equipment, but instead used a water turbine. A concrete sluiceway was built to bring water from the nearby stream into the mill, whereby the water would drop vertically through the turbine, which was considered "cutting edge" technology at that time, especially being located far from any towns or cities. The mill is located in rural Shannon county Missouri, northeast of Winona, not far from Rocky Falls, and is owned and maintained by the National Park Service. It has been nominated for placement with the National Register of Historic Places.
