Uncle Phooey
October Mantis
I was wandering around my yard looking for something to take photos of (my neighbors probably think I'm nutty ~ they might be right) when I saw movement in the big black walnut tree. Looking closer, I found a little praying mantis scurrying up and down the branches and twigs. I tried for several minutes to get my camera and tripod set to shoot it, but it would NOT stay still. Getting frustrated, I said, "C'mon dammit! Ilse wants to see you!" As if it understood, the little beastie flashed it's wings open and froze. I spent the next 10 minutes taking shots of it until the evening sun got so low that it was too dark to take any more. I looked back as I was walking away, and it was still there posing, waiting patiently for the monster with the black snappy thing to go away.
