Some cats may experience decreased thyroid levels after radioactive-iodine treatment. If this is occurs and the patient has the clinical signs of hypothyroidism (lethargy, obesity, and poor hair coat), then thyroid-hormone supplementation may be required.

Clients should be informed of both the expense, the length of the hospital stay, and the fact that they will not be able to visit their cat while hospitalized. This is because the cat is radioactive and the hospital cannot risk exposure to visitors.
