Once the diagnosis has been made, a treatment regime can begin.
Soloxine® (Levothyroxine, Virbac Corp., Fort Worth, TX) is a synthetic thyroxine replacement that is a life long treatment. It usually begins BID (Twice daily). It is probably the most common hypothyroid medication. Once stabilized, the majority of dogs can be maintained on 0.02 mg/kg once daily (Bell, et al., 2005).
