Mattel articulated body types comparison [Explore]
1. Pivotal body with 12 points of articulation, this body was debuted on the "Jazz Baby" dolls, then was used for "Pop Life" (which is the doll in my pic). The arms of Pivotals are thin and have a really nice range of motion; legs are thin with wonderul range of motion and have feet with defined toes. "Pop Life" has "paddle hands" that are rather flat with pointy fingers
2 Flashdance is a hybrid with 11 points of articulation. Same arms & legs of a Pivotal, but with Fashionista hands (my personal favorite mold for hands). No chest joint
3 Barbie Basics 2.5 is a hybrid with 11 points of articulation. Arms and hands are Fashionista therefore do not have the same range of motion as a Pivotal. No chest joint. Pivotal legs.
4. Elvis Barbie (same body used for Angelica of POTC & Frank Sinatra) my personal FAVE! 12 points of articulation, all joints are Pivotal for the best range of motion, but with my favorite hands from Fashionista! Love this body!
5. Fashionista with 12 points of articulation. Arms are fuller than a Pivotal and have a totally different joint so they don't have the same range of motion. "Belly Button" torso but with chest joint. Legs are fuller and shorter than the Pivotals and the feet are not defined so they have no defined toes, just smooth nubs.
Another difference is that Pivotals have smooth seams and really smooth, silky plastic. Fashionistas have slightly rougher seams and plastic. The 2.5s are only $20 whereas Pivotals are usually $35 so I guess that's why Mattel used Fashionista arms on these instead of Pivotal.
Hopefully this helps!
