Miranda Sofia at the Chiswick Book Festival

At the presentation of the prizes in the Chiswick Book Festival Young People’s Poetry Competition, Britains’s youngest published poet Miranda Sofia reads from her collection Poems and Stories for Little People, while author and scriptwriter Daisy Goodwin looks on.

Now in its 13th year, the Chiswick Book Festival Young People’s Poetry Competition encourages young people to enjoy creating their own poems. We look for original poems on any theme, up to 25 lines long. It is free and open to children (UK only) in Years 3 to 7, aged 7 or 8 to 12. The aim is to celebrate children’s creativity in poetic form. There are five year-group categories, with prizes awarded in each section.

The 15th Chiswick Book Festival took place during 6-13 September 2023 and brought to venues across Chiswick, west London top authors and their readers for a week of history, poetry, biography, fiction, thrillers, gardens, food, wine, politics, creative writing, self-help and children’s books – all in aid of reading-related charities.
